Free Light Chain Testing: From MGUS to Multiple Myeloma

Diseases such as multiple myeloma and AL amyloidosis can evolve from a precursor condition called monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS). Earlier diagnosis is associated with prolonged survival of patients, and serum testing for free light chains (FLC) aids in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients with these diseases. The N Latex FLC assay is the only FLC assay cleared by FDA for evaluation of patients with MGUS.
